Best of 2013 | Beauty

Best of 2013 posts and videos are my absolutely favourite because i think it really says a lot about a product if its made it into a yearly favourites - I really struggled trying to narrow down my favourite products because I've discovered so many amazing products during 2013 but i didn't want to include every single product that i liked, so it took me quite a while to narrow the list down to a reasonable amount and I've tried to pick a product for each category but of course some did end up with a few more than others.

Best of 2013 | Beauty

Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation in Ivory
I absolutely love this foundation and it was my go-to foundation during this summer. It had a light yet buildable coverage so it evened out my skin tone and offered a natural finish to the skin - this foundation reminds me a lot of the Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation so I'd say its a pretty good dupe if you are after trying that. This is really light on the skin which what i really liked about it and what made it so perfect for summer as it didn't feel heavy nor did it clog up the skin especially on those really warm days but it allowed me to cover up any imperfections.

Benefit Fake Up Concealer in Light*
I've had an on/off relationship with this concealer throughout the year but I've always found myself going back to it, especially in these winter months when I've needed more coverage on my undereyes as it covers them up quite well and the hydrating balm around the concealer is really moisturising on the skin. I don't like to apply this on top of my foundation as i find it can look a little cakey but i use this as a pre-concealer and it blends in much easier when i use it before concealer.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in Ivory
This is a lovely creamy concealer and i use this over my foundation when i need extra coverage or if I'm not wearing much make up, ill wear this alone. It covers my under eyes quite well and because it's illuminating and brightens up the skin, it brightens up under the eyes and helps make you look more awake. I've even used this to cover blemishes too and found that despite its illuminating quality it covers them quite well without highlighting them. I really rate this concealer it's definitely one of the best ones I've tried during 2013.

Benefit Hello Flawless Custom Cover Up Powder in Gee, I'm Swell Ivory*
I'm not that crazy about powders, as I've mentioned before they are just something i use in my routine so i tend to stick to the same one powder from start to finish and they are not something i splash out on. I was lucky to receive this in a goody bag when i attended the launch of 'Benefit Fake Up Concealer' and i use this to set my foundation and concealer in place and i love that it doesn't leave my face looking cakey nor does it leave your face looking like it has obviously just been powdered. I sometimes wear this powder alone on days i don't feel like wearing too much make up or if I'm having a good skin day as it gives a light coverage and i like how it leaves my skin. This also smells a little bit like liquorice which i really like.

Mac Paint Pot in Painterly
This is just a plain nude colour but i have used this so much this past year - both alone and as a base for my eyeshadow. The nude colour acts brilliant as a base as it evens the skintone of the eyelid and it gives the eyeshadow something to cling to make it more long lasting.

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette
I absolutely adore all my Naked Palettes but this one has really stood out to me this year. It's an all matte palette and has 6 gorgeous nude shades, it's so versatile - you can create subtle neutral looks or  go for a really bold smokey eye, there's a highlight shade in there and you can even use some of them to fill in your eyebrows too. I took this with me when i went to Rome early in 2013 because it's the perfect travel size, its really sturdy packaging and the versatility of it all meant i didn't have to take loads of extra products with me. Urban Decay are fantastic quality eyeshadows; very pigmented and super long lasting and id highly recommend this palette (as well as all naked palettes) as it's amazing.

Sephora Contour Eye Pencil 12Hr Wear in Tiramisu
This was a last minute impulse buy that i picked up in Sephora after not wanting to leave without having bought anything and funnily enough it turned out to be one of the best products i bought. I picked up a brown shade so I'd have a more natural option instead of always wearing a black shade. It's a creamy eyeliner and it just glides onto the eyes, its really long lasting and it doesn't smudge and i would love to get my hands on some of their other shades.

Topshop Magic Liner in Engraved
I actually don't have this anymore has I've completely used it up but this was one of the best felt tip liners I've ever used and i will definitely repurchase once ive used up the others that i have. The super thin nib on this liner made applying it really easy - i think this would be perfect for people who are new to felt tip liners as it allows you to have more control over the application. I love how pigmented this applies, its a proper black shade and one thing that really impressed me is that this lasted me so much longer than i expected most liners dry up with a month or so and this lasted me ages.

Benefit They're Real Mascara
I'm pretty sure this was featured in my best of 2012 post too but it's remained a firm favourite throughout this year too. It's just a brilliant mascara and it makes my eyelashes so long and the mascara wand is really great at separating all the lashes really well - this is definitely a luxury treat but i personally think its worth the money.

Manshiu Longlasting Eyelash Extension Volume Length Curling Mascara
If you are after a mascara that will you give you really long lashes but aren't quite able to spend a fortune this is definitely for you - i got this off ebay (brand new of course) and it cost me a total of £1.99 - it genuinely took me by surprise at just how good it is for such a small price tag and just look at that packaging, I'm not even a cat person but it is the most adorable packaging i have ever seen.

Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzer
2013 was definitely the year that i discovered my love for bronzer, whether i was using it for contouring or just adding some colour into my face. I tried quite a few new ones but out of all them, this has definitely been my favourite one to use. It's known as the chocolate bronzer - i personally don't think it smells like chocolate it has a more tropical/coconut kind of scent but i really like that. I love that this doesn't leave the skin muddy looking, its just the right shade for my skintone and its the first time I've found a bronzer that applies nicely without making me look overdone and orange looking.

Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Blush in Natural
This was my go to blusher throughout the entire of summer because as well as being such a lovely blush shade, it left my face with a gorgeous illuminous and healthy glow. I'm not quite sure how true the claim is that it makes you happy but i know that whenever I've worn it, it makes me feel really good because of how much of glow it gave my skin so I'm assuming that's what it meant by being a mood booster. I really hope that Physicians Formula comes to the UK because this is such an amazing product and i really want to try more from the brand.

Bourjois Colorburst Lip Crayon (Shades Orange Punch & Red Sunrise)
These are fantastic lip products; i didn't really jump on the lip crayon trend up until i tried these and then i fell head over heels. These are really easy to apply and really easy to wear too, they are quite sheer but they still give tonnes of colour which is something i really like. They last really well and feel really nice and moisturising on the lips too - i absolutely love these and i honestly can not say enough good things about them.

Shaka Lipgloss in Angel Rose
I'm quite fussy with lipglosses and their formula as i can not stand the feeling of a sticky lipgloss i just find it so unpleasant to wear but the colour of this one really stood out to me so i took a risk when buying it and thankfully it worked out pretty well as i love this lipgloss. Shaka is an Italian brand and as far as I'm aware it isn't available in the UK but this lipgloss is really nice, it has a really creamy and non sticky formula so its really pleasant to wear. The colour is a gorgeous almost candy pink shade - it reminds me a lot of Mac Snob lipstick but in lipgloss form and its such a beautiful colour to wear, and this lipgloss applies really nicely and its super pigmented too.

Kiko Ultra Glossy Stylo Lipstick in 803
These are quite similar to the Revlon lip butters in terms of their formula they are really moisturising to wear on the lips - they are quite sheer lipsticks but they have a glossy finish to them and despite their sheer application they are quite pigmented. This particular shade is a nude pink (surprise, surprise) and it's a really great everyday colour and also a great lip colour to compliment a really bold eye.

Original Carmex Lip Balm
This mostly only comes out in winter as i find its one of the best things to hydrate my lips when they start to feel really dry and chapped during the winter time and the past few months I've been really suffering with dry lips and I've been reaching for this so much - it does have menthol in it so you can feel that on your lips and it does have quite a strong scent bu i use this mostly before i go to bed and i just slather it on my lips and I've found its made my lips feel much more hydrated.

One Direction 'Our Moment' Perfume
I'm a big fan of One Direction but i honestly had no intention of buying their perfume, but then i went and tried a tester and i loved the scent so much that i picked up a 50ml - its literally my ideal scent; its so fruity and girly and it seriously smells so good. Ive worn this a lot since I've bought it, especially on special occasions. If you love those fruity/floral kind of scents id definitely recommend this perfume, even if you don't like one direction look past that and go smell it and i can guarantee you will be surprised.

L'Oreal Skin Perfection 15 Second Miracle Cleansing Oil
Removing make up is such a chore and with this cleansing oil it literally takes me less than a minute to remove all my make-up, even really stubborn items this removes them so easily and it makes it takes the hassle out of removing my make up as its so quick to do. Its really gentle on the skin and eyes too and its just an all round great product.

L'Oreal Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Water
This is a great all round product - i use this alot, after I've cleansed my face to make sure I've removed everything, or if I'm having a lazy day and can't be bothered using my cleansing oil ill use this to remove my make-up, its really soothing to use on the skin and its gentle around the eyes too.

Nip+Fab Pistachio Sundae Dry Skin Fix Body Butter
I pretty much fell head over heels for this body butter and as soon as i found out it was being discontinued i ran out and stocked up (i think i have about three backs up) - it is hydrating on the skin but i wouldn't go as far as saying its a dry skin fix - i really enjoy using this during the warmer months as it was the right amount of moisture my skin needs and it also smells incredible.

Monu Calming Cream
I normally can't stand calming/correcting creams but this product has been such a life saver to me. Around August my chin just erupted and gained a handful of residents that refused to budge for quite some time and they were quite red and really difficult to cover up until i used this. I'd dab it onto my chin area and any parts of my face that are quite red and the cream counteracts the red and it made it so much easier to cover up those blemishes. I use this nearly everyday i wear make up to calm the red patches or blemishes and it makes it so much easier for me to achieve a even base.

Wow, if you actually read all that and made it to the end then major kudos to you! This post took me ages to write so i really hope you enjoyed reading it!

  3. I'm loving this post! But I have to be honest and say that I haven't tried a whole lot of these products. I've used the One Direction 'Our Moment' perfume (I always spray on the tester in work, lol), Carmex Lip Balm and the Bourjois bronzer.. so I really need to try some more of these products because some of them seem great :-)
