Max Factor #selfeye

Max Factor #selfeye

Yesterday i received the Max Factor Two-step Excess Volume Extreme Impact Mascara* along with a lovely Max Factor Excess Intensity Long Wear Eyeliner* in the post and boy was i excited - For some reason Max Factor isn't a brand i tend to reach for often, i don't really know why though because I'm always hearing such great things about their products.

In conjunction with the new mascara release, Max Factor have launched a new campaign called the #selfeye - 2013 saw the trend of #selfies, now we're all guilty of posting a cheeky selfie at some point or another, so don't deny it (yes, I'm talking to you!) so Max Factor have very cleverly flipped its meaning and created #selfeye, encouraging everyone to show off their lashes after using their new Max Factor Mascara.

The mascara itself is dual end side 1 adds volume and side 2 is a dark lacquer; the first side is used as a base and to add volume to the lashes - which as you can see from the photo definitely works, my lashes felt and looked much thicker and longer. To seal that volume in place you layer it with side 2 which is a dark lacquer, this gives the lashes a polished jet black finish and also keeps that first layer in place. As you can see from photo of side 2 - this mascara is rather amazing, just look at the length of those lashes and i don't think these photos do it any justice. It retails for around £12.99 which is fairly pricey for a high street mascara but i think it's so worth it - I almost did a double take once id finished applying because of how good it made my lashes look. I even hurried downstairs to show my sister and ask her what she thinks of my lashes and her immediate response was to assume id applied false ones - so this mascara has very much impressed me.

It does have a few flaws in that whilst it's drying it feels a little sticky, and it makes my lashes so long i end up with little black smudges near the crease of my eye (i suppose that can only be a credit to how long it makes my lashes) and my last negative thing is the packaging it's quite large and bulky compared to the normal mascaras. Ive only tried it a few times so this is more of a first impressions review but at the moment, this mascara is close to rivalling my favourite Benefit They're Real.

The eyeliner is also a great product to come out of this range; this is the shade 'Excessive Charcoal' which is their black shade - this applies really easily and glides along the eye really easily so there's no dragging and it has a twist up system so you don't have to bother with sharpening it - i personally tend to ruin eye pencils when i sharpen them the fact this twists up gets a big thumbs up from me. Once applied this will not budged, i swatched this on my hand and kept rubbing over it with my finger and it didn't not budge at all.

So in terms of staying power and not smudging it's an excellent eyeliner however, this is also bittersweet because its ability at lasting so long also makes it a swine to remove. I found it removed okay with my L'Oreal Cleansing Oil but it did take a little bit longer than it normally would to remove - i would say this is a pain but as someone who likes wearing eyeliner and has been looking for that would not smudge, i can't complain because this does exactly that.

Before this products id never really given Max Factor's products a chance, but i will definitely be taking a look at their other products in future - after I'm done with my 'kind of' ban of course.
Will you be joining in with the #selfeye trend?
