Coloured mascara seems to have just come back out of nowhere; its been gracing the catwalks and magazines especially during spring/summer and also festival season. Blue mascara used to be something i enjoyed wearing when i was younger - it was something funky and different but as I've grown up black mascara is definitely the way to go. However, whilst i was at the Essence Launch; i saw Essence has some of their own and i decided to pick some up to try out. They have four different colours altogether; a royal blue, a teal green, red and a purple! I picked up the blue and green ones but Essence has put a red one into the goody bag so i ended up with 3 out of the 4.

The mascara itself is quite nice - i wasn't too sure what to expect as its just a bog-standard bristled mascara wand, nothing too fancy. They are actually nice little mascaras - they add a little length to the lashes and they don't clump when you layer them up either.

The royal blue mascara is possibly my favourite out of the three; it doesn't apply as blue as i expected it too it just adds a subtle pop of colour to the lashes - it's a nice colour and i think with a blue eyeliner pencil it will look really fun and summery. The teal green mascara actually surprised me - it applies a really lovely bright colour. Unfortunately, i fell asleep with this on (it was only a nap, i take my make up off before bed) and when i woke up i had green all around my eye. This wouldn't have been a problem but it was insanely stubborn to remove even using the sample of Benefit They're Real Remover didn't get rid of it - what makes it even worse is that i was going out later that night so i had to try and hide it with concealer and foundation. I'm not sure ill be in a hurry to use this again. I was a little bit worried that the red mascara would make me look like i had some kind of eye infection or something as it's an unusual colour to wear on the lashes. The colour doesn't look as bad as i expected it too, it's definitely quite a daring colour to wear.

The camera hasn't picked up the colours quite as bright as they are in real life! These mascaras won't be in my everyday make up routine any time soon but i do want to try and add some colour into my make up especially during the summer so there will be great for that - i think these will also be great for the likes of festivals or fancy dress. It says you can also use these as a hair mascara, i personally won't be using them for that but i think it's great that they are versatile and again they'd be fun and great for festivals or fancy dress.

Do you wear coloured mascara?

  3. These sound...different. I don't think I'd wear them as I love my black lashes, but I think I'd give them a go if I was a festival goer.
