I've never really tried hair wax before because I've always associated it with being more of a male hair product. I've always relied heavily on hairsprays to hold my hairstyles in place and whilst it's yet to let me down, i decided to try something new - i wanted something that might help smooth my hair down a bit as well as holding it in place so i have been trying out the Black and White Genuine Pluko Hair Dressing Pomade*
I wasn't sure what the difference was between a pomade and a wax so i took to google to find out - Pomade is used to give the hair more shine and is best used if you're going for a sleek, well groomed hairstyle whereas hair wax is best used for hold. A pomade is very similar to a hair wax however, a pomade is much softer and doesn't dry in the hair so you can restyle it as often as needed because a pomade offers more texture and shine to the hair as opposed to holding it in place.
On my first impression; i know that this is a unisex hair product but i feel like it's been marketed more towards males because the packaging has quite a masculine design, which i find quite off putting. As a female, I'd probably be put off picking this up because it looks like mans product.
In terms of the hair product itself, it's quite hit and miss - it's a nice hair product but I'm not really wowed by it. The way i used this was to take a pea sized amount in my hands, rub together and then work into the hair - i worked into into the roots and the end of my hair too. I found that doing this adds a nice amount of texture into the hair and preps the hair ready to be styled - using a pea size amount provides enough texture for me and it doesn't leave any residue in the hair or feel like you really have any product in your hair either.
There are two things i really do like about this hair pomade: firstly, is the shine it gives to my hair - it's gives the hair a really lovely glossy look to it but it's quite subtle so there is no need to worry about it looking oily or greasy. Secondly, is the scent - oh my, it's so nice. I can't quite put my finger on what it is, it's almost like baby powder mixed sweet vanilla. I honestly don't know what the scent it, but it's so pleasant!
It retails for about £4.65 (Available here) - i do like this hair pomade but i personally prefer using hairspray and texturising sprays for styling my hair. I do love the shine this gives though so for that reason alone I'll continue to use this but i think it's a product that would be better suited to someone with much shorter hair as i think you'd see more of a result.
