I love to contour; it's something i only really do in my routine if I'm making more of an effort but i love how it can really transform your entire face. Contouring is not something I've mastered so i love trialling out different contour product to see which works best for me. The latest addition to my collection is the Smashbox Step By Step Contour Kit.
This was a bit of a random purchase; i hadn't done any research into it or read any reviews about it, it caught my eye when i was on the airplane so i bought it on my way back from Spain, you can see my holiday haul here. The airline had a pretty amazing deal on it too; it retails for £35 on the high street but they were selling it for £28 and they also had a further 20% off on top of that so it ended up costing me £22.50. So i just couldn't say no.
The Smashbox Step By Step Contour kit contains a contour, a bronzer and a highlighter and you also get a little contour brush with it too. The palette itself is quite sleek and sturdy; the combination of the three products in one and the large mirror make it an ideal companion for travelling but not only that, it has some handy instructions and guidelines on the mirror too which are really helpful. It also comes with a foldout infographic with more handy tips on contouring to your own face shape. So i definitely think kit would be great for someone who is just learning to contour or who like me is just a bit of a noob and needs a bit of help.
The contour is a cool matte grey-brown shade which makes it ideal for creating shadows and adding definition to the face. It looks quite dark in the pan but don't let that put you off, as it's not overly pigmented which i actually really like because you can build up the intensity and make it more suited to you. It's a really lovely product and is great for defining the face. The bronzer is a warm matte brown; it has a slight orange tone to it which would normally put me off a bronzer but i find this shade compliments my skin tone. It's great for warming up and adding colour into the face.
The highlighter product is probably the one that surprised me the most as it's a matte yellow/ivory toned highlighter, i didn't think it would be that great or suit my skin tone that much but it actually has a lot more of an impact and gives the skin a really beautiful glow. I do like the little contour brush that comes with the palette; it's not amazing and i prefer to use it to apply the bronzer rather than for contouring but it's better than most brushes that usually comes with palettes.
If you prefer a really heavy contour then you might prefer to try something else but I'm quite fair skinned so on me i prefer a more natural contour and this palette provides exactly that. This palette is definitely on the pricey side but for me it's worth it as i absolutely love the way it looks on.
