Review | Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation

I was intriqued by this Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Foundation when it was released that i knew it wouldn't take long til it was in my possesion. Granted it fell into my basket as soon as i found myself in Boots.

Review | Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation

Using this foundation, reminded my exactly why it requires a bit of time to really test a product out before reviewing it. I don't know why but i didn't really expect it to have that mousse type formula which i guess was kind of silly of me, when the majority of the Maybelline 'Dream' products have mousse formulas.

The first time i used this i wasn't so sure. It didn't apply well with a brush, it pretty much separated all over my face and trust me it wasn't a good look. On first application, i also felt like it wasn't a great colour match, i picked the lightest shade 01 Natural and i was feel pretty miffed because i felt like it was a bit dark for me and i thought that i might have wasted my money.

I don't know what happened or what caused me to keep using it but over time I've really grown to love this foundation. I apply it with my hands as that is what blends it out the best and i don't know what happened that first time, maybe it was awful lighting but the colour actually works great with my skin. I've been wearing this pretty much every single day and i love it. It has a light coverage but paired with a bit of face powder i feel like this foundation leaves me with a really soft, flawless and matte finish. Without blowing my trumpet, it's almost doll like.

I find it lasts pretty well too, I've worn it to work for 9 hours shifts and my foundation is still in place. I do find it need to top up my powder after a while as i get a bit shiny on my forehead but i find that happens with most foundations.

I'm obsessed with this foundation at the moment, i love wearing it and i just can't get over how lovely the finish is and it retails for only £7.99.

Have you tried the Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation yet?

  1. I don't think I'd think to try this after my experiences with the Dream Matte Mousse! I do like the sound of the velvet finish, though :)

  3. I loved dream matte mousse years ago, so I'd love to give this a shot - I just wish they'd expand the shade range (either that, or I need a holiday!)! The lightest shades are always way too dark for me still.

    1. Yeah, i noticed the shade range is quite limited. Thankfully the lightest one suits me quite well but its not fair on others.
