Initial Impressions | Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil

I'm sure by now you've all heard of the many exciting new brow products that Benefit are launching. Benefit have collaborated with Elle Magazine to give you the new Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil for free before it's even released. As soon as i found out, i marched my way to the nearest shop and grabbed myself one. If your quick, you may still be able to get your hands on a copy

I think it's really great that Benefit sometimes give their new products as an exclusive freebie with a magazine - personally, I'm not a fan of Elle Magazine but I'm happy to buy it when they have a freebie like this because it means i get to try their new products out without spending a fortune and then it not being for me. I definitely didn't need a new brow product but for the sake of about £4, there was no way i was missing out on trying this out.

I really like the packaging, it is a bit gimmicky but Benefit always have that quirky style packaging and for them it just works and this is no exception. It's quite Sci-fy looking but i think the silver and the diamond/crown style lid is supposed to be more of a princess themed but i like it either way. The name, however I'm not too keen on 'Goof Proof'. I understand that they are suggesting it's suitable for anyone to use, including novices and 'Goofs' but i just think it sounds a bit childlike - the name has no impact on the product though, this is just my own opinion.

In the magazine you can only get two of the shades (2 and 6) - i don't know what 2 is like but 6 is quite dark, I'm lucky and have fairly dark brows so i can just about get away with it but I'd say it's a dark brown, borderline black shade. So do bear that in mind if you decide to pick a magazine up. The actual product itself does come in 6 different shades though.

The very first time i opened it, it reminded me of a Etude House Brow Pencil i have which isn't the easiest to apply so i wasn't sure what to expect with this one but naturally, i shouldn't have doubted Benefit because the pencil is actually quite creamy and does apply easily across the brows. Due to shade 6 being quite dark, i was worried to how it would apply but it has quite a light pigmentation and by that, i mean that it's not heavy (does that make sense?) - it takes little effort to completely fill in the brow, but you can also build upon it to get a much bolder brow depending on your preference.

So far i do actually like this brow pencil, I've been wearing this everyday since i got it and i really like how easy it is to use. It takes barely anytime to fill in the brows and it doesn't smudge. I can't really comment on the staying power because i always wearing either a brow gel or a brow wax over to keep it in place but with either of those it's stayed in place all day. It's definitely worth checking it out or grabbing a copy of Elle Magazine if the Goof Proof Brow Pencil is something your thinking about trying.

Did you manage to grab a copy? What do you think of the Goof Proof Brow Pencil?

  2. I've just got this in shade 2 but haven't yet used it. I'm not used to such an angled tip but I'm looking forward to putting it to the test!
