I posted a ColourPop Haul quite recently and rather than posting a whole bunch of individual reviews saying the exact same thing - i decided to review the Ultra Matte Lips in one post. Sharing my thoughts, swatches and even a peek at what they look like on (let me know, if you want a post like this on the Super Shock Eyeshadows too)
As you can imagine i had really high expectations of the ColourPop Ultra Matte Lips; i mean lets face it, very few bloggers and youtubers have said a bad word against them so i had no reason to expect otherwise?
The very first time i wore one of these; i was a little deflated - the pigmentation was amazing, they applied great and the staying power is so good that it's annoying trying to take them off. However, it didn't dry great, it was quite creamy and when i decided to reapply mine (it faded a little after food) it just didn't layer well at all, once it had set in place it was quite drying and i could feel it crumbling on my lips - it wouldn't have been so bad but as they're quite tough to remove, i was stuck with it all night and felt very conscious of my crumbly lips.
However, i have since mastered the art of the ColourPop Ultra Matte Lips and to get a good application and none of that dry/crumbling on the lips, you have to remove any excess product off the doufat - scrape it against the top of the tube until it looks like there is nothing there and then apply it. The thinner the layer is, the better the application will be - you can achieve a full colour in practically one swipe so you don't need to build it up and that thin layer is key to a really nice and comfortable application.
I have really grown to love these lip products and i can now appreciate the hype of them. They are really beautiful lip products; so pigmented and they last for hours, they do fade slightly when you eat but personally, I'd avoid reapplying unless absolutely necessary.
I feel like this photo doesn't do Trap any justice - when i first swatched this i was a little wary that i wouldn't suit it, but i wore it the other night to the theatre and i actually really liked it. It's a very grey toned nude and unlike any lip product i own in my collection, it lasted on my lips for about 6 hours - i only topped up the very centre of my lips where it faded after eating but it was really comfortable on. I actually quite like how different and unusual this colour is and i feel like it's a perfect Autumnal shade.
More Better is a deep violet wine colour and this is the culprit that actually made me doubt whether these were worth the hype but i have since tried it again applying it with a very thin layer and it really does make all the difference. Again, this lasts on the lips for hours, it's comfortable to wear and i love how vampy this red shade it.
I was quite worried about using this one when i first swatched it because as you can see from the swatches above, Notion looks like a very dark red toned brown which is a colour I'm not so sure I'd wear but it's actually not as brown toned once it's on the lips, instead it's a really beautiful dark berry red. Again, this is really fierce and vampy red and i love the confidence boost this colour gives me.
Out of the three shades I've got, i actually can't choose a favourite which makes me happy because i feel like I'm going to get a lot of wear out of these. I'm really glad i persisted with these and tried applying it differently otherwise i would have been so annoyed if they'd have just been shoved in my drawer especially because when you consider the shipping and custom charges as well it does get costly.
If you are considering making a ColourPop order; the Ultra Matte Lips are definitely worth checking out but always remember that the thinner the layer, the better the application!!
Have you tried the ColourPop Ultra Matte Lips?
