EBay Finds #2 | Silisponge Dupe

EBay Finds #2 | Silisponge Dupe

I'm sure by now you have all heard of the Silisponge - if not, it's the newest beauty applicator with the intention of avoiding wasting any product. I came across this 'dupe' whilst having a browse on EBay and curiosity got the better of me so i decided to give it a go.

EBay Finds #2 | Silisponge Dupe

Now I've seen quite a few videos and comparisons on the original Silisponge by Molly Cosmetics and the reviews were very mixed so i didn't fancy paying full price (i believe it's around the £10 mark) which is why i opted for the EBay alternative at 99p. So I can't compare this to the original but i have seen videos of people comparing this one to the original and a few have said there is very little difference.

The Silisponge is essentially a silicone sponge that is designed to be more hygienic, easier to clean and to waste less product; to use you take a small amount of your cream product (in my case it was foundation) and go in circular motions until you can't spread the product any further and then tap repeatedly till to blend - - on paper it sounds simple and ideal but in reality, I'm not quite convinced.

This was so messy, i only use a small amount of foundation to begin with and all this did was move the product around my face - no amount of tapping settled or blended the product, it just left me looking really cakey and what is usually a lightweight foundation just looked so heavy and unflattering. If anything, i found it wasted more product than my usual applicators do because all the product just sat on my face an i ended up wiping it all off and having to re-apply it.

One thing i did like is that because it's silicone it felt nice and cooling on the face but other than that, i think the concept is better then the actual product. Yes, it is more hygienic and yes its easier to clean but as an applicator, I'd rather stick to my usual sponges or brushes because they're so much better and it the end results is actually wearable.

If you're curious and want to try this sponge then i personally would suggest trying the EBay alternative because i honestly wouldn't recommend this applicator and I'm glad i only wasted a pound because id have been fuming to spend anymore and not get the results it claims.

Have you tried the Silisponge - real or dupe?

  1. Oh what a shame, I've read some really good reviews of the original and was thinking of giving it a go! At least you've only wasted £1 though I guess :)

  2. I've always been intrigued by this sponge but I think I'll buy the cheaper alternative than the actual one so I don't waste my money. X

  3. I just can't see how any type of silicone sponge could work with makeup, it baffles me!
